We invite boys registered to the Marist Canberra Cricket Club who wish to be considered for Division 1 teams to attend cricket trials at the Jubilee nets at the College on Sunday 13th September 2020 at the following times
Under 12’s (born between 1 September 2008 and 31 August 2009) – 8.30am – 9.45am
Under 14’s (born between 1 September 2006 and 31 August 2007) – 9.45am – 10.45am
Under 11’s* (born on or after 1 September 2009) – 10.45am – 12.00pm
Under 13’s (born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008) – 12.00pm – 1.15pm
Dates for older age groups will be announced soon.
(*) - Please note that it is school policy that boys trial and then subsequently play in their correct age groups. This supports maximum participation in the sport. The only exception to this policy is in the under 10 and under 11 age groups which have CACT trialling “a stage and not age principal” for this cohort. If you had any queries in relation to this policy you should contact the Club President Nick Smith (email@example.com) or the Head of Sport at the college Paul Mead (firstname.lastname@example.org). Boys starting in year 4 in 2021 do not need to attend this session and they will be placed in a team with their peers
Parents should note that only boys who wish to be considered for a division 1 team need to attend the trials and that winter sports and commitments to winter teams must remain the priority for all families. The club will ensure that no boy is disadvantaged if they cannot attend the trials. The grading process will be conducted by teachers of the school, division 1 coaches and committee members and will be conducted in a Covid friendly environment. To support this environment, the club has adopted the CACT Covid safety plan (attached) and is encouraging all boys trialling to bring their own cricket ball as well as their own helmet / protector (a requirement in all years). While in most years the Club is happy for parents to support their sons at trials, we are asking that for this unusual year you sign your son into the trial and then leave and pick them up at the conclusion of the trial. If your son is particularly anxious and would like you to stay, please advise the committee member at the sign in desk that you will remain so that we can monitor numbers (particularly at the under 11’s session). If your son is feeling unwell on the day or has visited a designated Covid hotspot within the last 14 days, they should not attend the trial.
While trials can be confronting for some players, please assure your son that these trials are one small component of the grading process. Teams are selected on previous performances at MCCC or other clubs, previous or current representative experience, team balance, potential as well as performance at the trials. The clubs overarching goal is to maximise participation in the sport by ensuring all boys can play with their peers and at a standard that is appropriate to their skill level.
In order to attend these trials, all players must be registered by Sunday 13 September 2020. This will allow the Committee to manage numbers on the day. If you have not registered, registrations are open at
